ABOUT US

Since its incorporation, the United Way of Lee County has raised and distributed millions of dollars throughout the county to help nurture children, enhance self-sufficiency and strengthen families. It's all fairly simple: Neighbors join together through the United Way to help each other and, in the process, make the entire community stronger.

Though donations continue to arrive, the United Way managed to raise about $530,000 in the last campaign to assist 26 different agencies dedicated to improving life for all of us. Among them, agencies like HAVEN for Lee County, the Coalition for Families in Lee County and local affiliates of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Why Contribute?

Ask Bob & Pat Clarke. Helping people and doing it without waste.
Ask Joe Martin. Finding real needs and helping new groups thrive.

Your contributions remain right here in Lee County, where they are used by neighbors and friends to care for those who need it most. Throughout the year, our staff and volunteers assess emerging needs and work with a wide variety of agencies to determine priorities to strengthen Sanford, Broadway and all communities throughout the county.

Not only does your contribution help others, but the United Way's accountability standards give you peace of mind, knowing that your contribution is being used wisely and for the purpose it was intended.

Local United Way Campaigns
The Pacesetter campaign kicks off each August, when local businesses "set the pace" for the annual fundraising drive by making donations and encouraging employees to contribute to their community. The Pacesetter campaign is followed in mid-September by the United Way of Lee County's general campaign.

But you don't need to wait until the annual campaign! You may donate any time by mailing a donation to the United Way of Lee County — or make your donation now, using a secure site.

An Affiliate of the United Way of America
As a local affiliate of the national organization, the United Way of Lee County is one of about 1,300 independent, community-based organizations across America dedicated to improving people's lives. Each local affiliate is separately incorporated, governed by a local board of directors and charged with raising funds for local projects. In 2005-06, the United Ways generated a combined $3.98 billion to address critical community needs.
