NOT COPING WELL with hostility over time can be dangerous. Research suggests it can lead to heart attacks, suppressed immune systems and even weakened lungs. Our anger management classes help people recognize situations that upset them the most ... and plan appropriate, less-harmful ways to deal with negative emotions.

SHAPING OUR NEXT GENERATION is vital, so for the last two decades, we've been helping Chatham County Schools students find ways to deal with anger and hostility in appropriate ways. Thanks to a grant from the United Way, we will provide peer mediation training to Lee County Schools in the 2007-08 school year.

ANOTHER BENEFIT of what we do is helping reduce inequalities in the legal system. Mediation and other services offer constructive ways to deal with conflict without having to go through an adversarial court process.

Resolving Conflict.
Finding Solutions.

Since true peace begins at home, both in our families and local communities, Deep River Mediation works to foster effective communication and promote non-violent problem solving.
Whether it's through direct mediation or life skills classes, our goal is to help local residents, agencies and businesses find good solutions to conflict.
How It Works
Deep River Mediation offers a variety of services in Lee and Chatham counties, many of them free of charge. Here are some examples:
  • Victim-Offender Mediation, assisting with discussions between a victim and offender, so the victim can understand what happened and why.
  • Community Mediation, helping individuals or groups involved in a dispute find solutions agreeable to them.
  • Choices, teaching conflict and anger resolution to youth and their parents.
  • Teen Court, moving cases for some offenses away from traditional court and into an alternative program where teens serve jury duties and perform community service while learning valuable life skills.
  • Juvenile Community Service, helping those found guilty in court make amends to the community and learn valuable lessons.
  • Juvenile Restitution, helping those found guilty in court restore their victims and learn valuable lessons.
  • Family and Divorce Mediation, with fees charged on a sliding scale based on income.
  • District Court Mediation, provided for a fee set by the court.
  • Anger Management, 10 weeks of classes offered for a nominal fee (scholarships and fee wavers are available for those who qualify).
