Michele Bullard joins
United Way staff

SANFORD — Michele Bullard, who previously served for three years with the United Way of Lee County, returns to the staff on June 15 as Program Services Director.

In her new role, Bullard will work throughout the community, with groups and individuals, to encourage local giving and volunteerism. Her primary focus will be on developing and coordinating the annual fundraising campaign, working with participating companies in their own efforts to enhance civic life.

Before leaving the United Way staff to start a family, Bullard worked under directors Bunny O'Sullivan and Deborah Crews on many of the same projects she will be handling in coming months — coordinating corporate campaigns, managing the process of allocating contributions and developing special events.

Though she wasn't part of the staff for many years, the United Way was never far from her thoughts. So when the new opportunity opened, she jumped at it.

"This has always been a passion of mine," Bullard says. "From the beginning, the United Way has become a huge part of my life. I'm very anxious to get back into the community and see some of the people I worked with before."

Bullard replaces Kelly Wright, who resigned earlier this month to pursue other opportunities. United Way executive director Jan Hayes says the staff will miss Wright's enthusiasm and looks forward to the contribution Bullard will make in the coming months.

"With all of her experience and dedication to this cause, Michele will keep us keep moving forward without missing a beat," Hayes says. "She has enormous talent, and that means our campaign, and the entire community, for that matter, are in very good hands."

The United Way of Lee County has raised and distributed millions of dollars to help nurture children, enhance self-sufficiency and strengthen families. Contributions raised throughout the year, including the fall campaign, are distributed to more than two dozen member agencies dedicated to improving life for everyone in Lee County.
